Windows 10 update
|
I don't want this shit and have avoided it so far, but now it is showing an automatic update in the next hour.
I have been able to fuck this off and delay it for 5 days, so does anyone know an easy fix beyond the vague long wided dogshit that windows have offered?
I can't find this Computer Configuration bollocks...

Last windows PC I ever buy.

10 is not too bad when you get used to it. Better than 8.1 that's for sure.
Takes a good few hours to install though, so do it last thing at night.

I done this last week ! i done a fresh install via a USB stick , but being a numpty , i forgot to write down my old windows 7 ID number , my old hard drive is still saved but i need to get a programme that will find my old number - so at the moment , i can use windows 10 , which is very good by the way , but i still need to register. i dont know how long i can carry on using it unregistered , because to be honest it does not make much difference

Double check your laptop/pc manufacturer site first though.
I upgraded to Windows 10 on a 4 year old Dell XPS laptop, and everything ran like a dream, until I couldn't keep it connected to the internet for more than about 5 mins at a time.
After trouble-shooting this and that for quite a while, and running all sorts of diagnostics on my connection and router etc, a quick look at the Dell website showed that the motherboard and network adaptor drivers were not compatible, and they had no intention of making them so.
Windows 10, obviously, said it met all the requirements, but obviously it doesn't really know shit.
Shame, because it looked good and I enjoyed setting it all up, but had to roll-back to 7, which I'm perfectly happy with.
Bit annoyed with myself that I didn't check that out sooner though.

10 gets a thumbs up from me, I was told that the download/upgrade? could create a few initial hiccups so I paid a tech to do it for me, it's brilliant.

Pretty sure it wont install unless you want it too, just say no or close the pop up offering the upgrade, keeps popping up on my PC that it’s a limited time offer, from what I have been told unless your PC is relatively new then it can cause more problems than its worth.
Personally I will stick with W7 Pro as long as I can, still run 32 bit software and need to access safe mode to load it, then run in Xp mode, one thing with 8 and 10 is trying to access safe mode is fucking hard, compared to 7 even if selecting to run in Xp mode is easy its getting it too run as 32 bit rather than 64 that’s hard.
W10 is good by all accounts though, just as I said above as long as you’re running a newish machine.

Re: Windows 10 update

My primary reasons for not installing:
1. I don't have a touchscreen so that capability will add nothing.
2. I don't like that Windows Updates are no longer optional.
3. I don't like that the operating system is now being used as a data harvester with no way to opt out.
4. Windows 7 is a great operating system, highly stable, remains fully supported, is totally compatible, and is missing nothing that I need that would be delivered by an upgrade.

No way to opt out other than all of the ways to opt out in the advanced install options, Stubbo?

Thanks...have just read some articles about it. Again, the benefit I'd get is minimal verus the hassle of having to do the install, hope all works well, then go through adjusting apges of privacy settings, editing the registry to change Windows Updates and the like.
Think I'll stick with Windows 7 for now.

I have a five year old Dell laptop with 7 on it. I keep knocking back the 10 Option and after what Lomas has experienced I will not "upgrade".

I got it on the grounds it will be supported for longer than W7 will be, but I still prefer 7.

Upgraded overnight. Seems to be working okay, but has pissed with some bookmarks/favourites. Which is hugely annoying.
Need to also sort out "security" settings. Don't want the plod thinking I go on WHO!

Something changed without me doing anything and it automatically set for a scheduled upgrade.
I didn't notice the cancel upgrade option at first so managed only to delay it.
Seems they are getting pushy with the upgrade though....
